Red Frog for Families provides supports tailored to individual needs, with the vision of supporting participants to experience high quality of life. This is achieved through development of reciprocal relationships, independent living, and meaningful employment as our participants become adults. Families are empowered to understand and support their loved ones through everyday activities and interactions. Supports are provided in our clinic, in natural environments, in participant homes, throughout the community, and via Telehealth. Recent additions to Red Frog for Families include the opportunity to travel to rural centres to provide supports to families that do not have local support available. Exciting expansions of our services are in the planning stage; you could be an integral part of our innovative venture to provide the kind of support that changes lives!
Red Frog for Families supports children through to young adults and their families who are affected by disability and different abilities. Our therapy team specialises in therapy away from the table and outside of the box. We love to play and help our participants grow, and know that this is done best when both participants and therapists are having fun and motivated by their world.
Red Frog for Families allied health assistants and disability support workers are playful, energetic, creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated to achieving great outcomes for our families. Our multidisciplinary team works with children, adolescents, and young adults with various developmental and learning disabilities. Our state-of-the-art clinic facilities have been designed to be child-friendly, facilitating play-based therapy focusing on relationships and developmental frameworks.
The Red Frog for Families team is committed to ongoing professional and personal development including exploration of individual passions. Multidisciplinary group-based professional development and mentoring is a regular part of our team’s week, and all therapists receive support to attend discipline-specific CPD opportunities along with individual clinical supervision and mentoring. Red Frog for Families is unique in offering transdisciplinary supervision with one of Australia’s most experienced Relationship Development Intervention consultants.
Where we work
Just a short drive from the beaches of Newcastle, our new clinic space in Broadmeadow is surrounded by a thriving community. Our local shopping centre, recreational activities, parks, and sporting venues are all a short walk away (which obviously makes it easy to dream up interesting ways to support our participants!). Inside our clinic are playful spaces to support children’s development, larger spaces for big bodies, big groups, and big ideas, and flexible spaces for physical fitness, making, and creating.
Of course, our team are not forgotten either. There’s no cramped hot-desk arrangement, but rather every team member has their own generous dedicated space. A range of meeting rooms and team breakout areas are also available for collaboration. And we’re not done there, with future additions to include individual quiet work pods, more individual offices, and other team spaces to ensure everyone can find their own groove that allows them to support our participants in the best way possible.
About the roles
You will be dedicated to ensuring our participants and their families are supported in a caring and compassionate manner as they develop the skills to support themselves and each other. You will work collaboratively with families to review individual development and progression, and modify intervention plans as required. You will support participants at home and in school through a collaborative consultation process.
You will collaborate with other members of the therapeutic supports team, our participant support team, our allied health (therapy) assistants team, our community access/disability support worker team, volunteers, and students to provide the best support to our participants. You will be a team player who enjoys bringing out the best in others.
You will have a strong work ethic, good time-management skills, and practice personal wellbeing. You will be able to gather information from multiple sources and think critically to independently complete tasks.
Allied Health Assistants
Allied health assistants work under the close supervision of one of our occupational therapists or speech therapists to implement a therapeutic program individualised to the participant’s needs. Allied health assistants collaborate regularly with our therapy team to develop their clinical reasoning skills and to learn new therapeutic techniques.
Disability Support Workers
Disability support workers provide the link between high-intensity therapeutic interventions and relaxed, real-world practice. Disability support workers facilitate participant access to their community and activities of choice. This can be through in-home supports, in-community supports, or assisting to access therapy.
Essential Requirements
Current Working with Children Check (for employment)
Police Criminal check
Current First Aid Certificate
Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders or other developmental disability
Ability to think outside the box to perform therapy in the context of natural, dynamic interactions
Playful mindset and enjoyment of play-based therapy
Commitment to personal and professional development to enhance outcomes for families
An inclusive mindset to recognise the value and potential of people with disability
Confident with the use of technology for business
Non-judgemental approach to disability
Selection criteria
Demonstration of care, compassion, and connection with people with different abilities.
Ability to contribute to, develop, and implement best-practice methodologies with a sound evidence base.
Experience in and understanding of multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to working with children, adolescents, and young adults with a disability.
A demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development.
The ability to communicate confidently, respectfully, clearly, and succinctly; to listen to others; and to prepare written material that is concise, accurate, well-structured, and easy to follow by the intended audience.
Ability to quickly and effectively build rapport with people of various backgrounds, abilities, and cultures.
Competency using computer software programs for tasks including word-processing, emailing, internet searching, and data entry and the ability to readily learn new systems and programs.
Experience in paediatric settings is preferred, however highly passionate individuals who are willing to learn quickly on the job are also encouraged to apply
